MIM Impression Plate Tricks & OWH Sketch Challenge

Another great sketch from OWH this week, and as they are in need of Father's Day Cards (due to the shippers by the 21st of this month), I thought I would play with my PTI "My Hero, My Dad" stamp set and use their new Make It Monday technique.  Here is the sketch from OWH:

I did however have a little mishap whilst trying this new technique from PTI and following the Cuttlebug "sandwhich" to the T!Oops, my one B plate broke in the Cuttlebug!  No damage to my Impression plate or my die, thank goodness.  My one B plate was extremely buckled from use, so hopefully that was the reason! And how is about this for friendship, my friend Lisa was at Michaels when this happened, so I texted her to see if they had some B plates there and yes, she purchased them for me and brought it over!  Thank you Lisa, you are the best!

Without too much more rambling on, here is my card:

Paper: PTI Cardstock; Patterned Paper (Bo Bunny)
Ink: Walnut Stain DI; CTMH Dye ink (edging on the turquoise paper; Versafine Onyx Black
Stamps: PTI
Other: PTI Impression plate; PTI Butterfly Die; Brads (Recollection)

I stamped the Hero definition on the bottom of the notecard and then added a strip of patterned paper above it as I needed more height in order to add the turquoise piece.  The latter was made using the Book Print Impression plate over which I added the Butterfly die.  Pretty neat hey!  I then cut it to size, stamped the word "son" on the butterfly, added 4 metal brads and adhered it with pop dots.

I used one of the grunge elements from the set to stamp in the middle of the top half of the notecard and adhered the sentiment strip using pop dots over it using pop dots.

I like it, do you?  Hopefully a father/mother in the armed forces can use it to send it to their son.

Perfect Just the Way You Are

I liked the OWH sketch 66 so much that I decided to make another card using the same layout just a different stamp and different patterned papers.

Paper: PTI Cardstock; Patterned Paper (old stash)
Ink: Soft Leaf ink (HA); Dusty Concord DI; Copic Markers; Versamark; Memento Tuxedo Black
Stamps: Unity; Hero Arts
Other: Vellum; White Embossing Powder; Gems (stash)

I first stamped the front of the notecard with the Magical Background stamp from HA in Soft Leaf ink.  I then added the three strips of paper on the side.  I stamped the sentiment in Dusty Concord Distress ink.

The butterfly was first stamped on Neenah Solar White cardstock and coloured in with copic markers and adhered to the card.  I then stamped it again using versamark on vellum and embossed it with white embossing powder. I adhered the vellum butterfly over the other using a little bit of glossy accents under the body part only, and allowing the wings to "flutter".  I then added some little gems to the body of the butterfly.

Isn't that Itty Bitty stamp from Unity too beautiful!

OWH Sketch Challenge 66

I am all for easy sketches and I really like the one over on OWH this Easter Sunday!  And I know that the heart on the sketch represents anything right, it does not have to be a heart, but I have this cute Itty Bitty stamp from Unity and it's a heart and it's exactly what I wanted to use.

What fun it was to make this card!  And it's great in this case to have coordinating paper!

I did paper piece the flowers on the heart.  It's actually made up of the initial stamped image plus two additional layers and I popped an eyelet through the centre of the flower.

OWH Sketch 59

I used the current OWH Sketch to make this card to add to my box which needs to go SOON!  I did a bit of stamp layering as well, and I was also trying thinner watercolour paper (98lbs instead of 140lbs), and it does seem to absorb better.

I am not 100% sure of my choice of colours or even my patterned paper, but it's not all bad!

Ink: Tea Dye, Brushed Corduroy, Spun Sugar, Shabby Shutters, Tumbled Glass, Versamark

To make the centre panel, I first stamped the Dictionary Definition on watercolour paper using versamark and then embossing with white embossing powder. I used my acrylic block with Spun Sugar ink and water and inked the background of the centre panel.  Then, I masked off all four sides with post-it notes and stamped the various images and finally inked the edges with Tea Dye Distress ink.  I then distressed the edges with a distressing tool.

I am going to continue practicing with this watercolour paper and various stamps to see what other looks I can achieve.

This card was made using the Distressed Dots patterned paper from Papertrey Ink.  I did a little sewing around the edges before adhering it to my card base. The centre panel is made with a piece of the Flourish Stamp that was inked with Fired Brick Distress ink.  More and more, Ranger's Distress Inks are becoming my ink of choice, they can do anything, really.

The paper flower was my personal challenge for today.  I have been wanting to make it since I first saw it on Jennifer's video but steered clear of it for fear of making a complete mess.  I cannot say that I am 100% satisfied, yet.  I felt that the clear embossing ink did not get into every crevace of the flower as I would have liked, even though I pressed that flower down really hard!  But I still like it, and I love that brad in the centre! The centre panel was adhered with 3-dimensional adhesive strips.

A sentiment on some vellum, something I am starting to use because who wants to hide that Flourish if you don't have to!
