It's been a while since my last post, life has just been busy and I've been drawing other things. But I needed to tangle, I was missing it, so I went to the Diva's site, HERE, and decided to participate in her current challenge called "Two Squared". The basic requirement was to draw a string comprising of two squares. Here is my interpretation:

Starawn; Rick's Paradox

I simply overlaid two squares and used two tangles, then added some flourish. Simple. Lots of white space.

Have a wonderful day!

Adele is already at over 1 Million viewers! Quite a feat and a testament to her work and the effort she puts into her blog and her Zentangle community. Well done Adele!

The details for this week's challenge can be found HERE on her blog. I made time out of my "other" drawing time to actually tangle a bit and put this tile together for this challenge:

Tangles; Jetties; Lollywimple; Purk

It was a nice change to relax and tangle for a bit.

All my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Houston and friends in Katy, Texas dealing with the effects of Hurricane Harvey! We know all too well what havoc these acts of nature can dish out, having just gone through some life changing fire devastation in our little town.

Wishing you all a blessed day.

I had some time to participate in the latest Diva Challenge, you can find all the details on her blog HERE. Marguarite Samama is the guest blogger there and wanted us to use the Fragment D1 from the Zentangle Primer book. I sat down over a cup of coffee and enjoyed my tangling.

I was admiring pictures of some Botanical Tangles and decided to get Sharla Hicks' book called Tangled Inspired Botanicals. I only managed to get to page 20 where I spent a lot of time studying "the rose" and how Sharla had drawn it.

So today I sat down and drew it on a Zentangle Renaissance tile, adding some light pink Pan Pastel to the background as well as white charcoal highlights and graphite for shading. Now I'll continue working through her book that has such lovely drawings.
Despite the recent fires that devastated our town, the blackness that surrounds us both physically and emotionally, the sadness, the anger, the shock.....the sun still rises each day and on a recent morning run I decided to take my cellphone with in the hope of catching some photos that would give me a boost of positiveness, and this is what I saw.....
I could have focused on the blackness of the trees, the death of them, the coldness of the ashen ground....but instead I chose to see through the trees and take note of the beautiful picture they helped to create.

I am so very grateful for what we have!

Just sharing.

I was a bit at a loss as to how to use the two tangles, but I persevered, although I am not overly thrilled with the outcome. I am looking foward to see how others have used these tangles, I definitely needs some help!

Have a blessed Sunday. Ours is coming to an end. Watched the Wimbledon Men's Finals and todays Tour De France! Love it!
Here is my attempt at a Dingbatz~
You can find all the details of Adele's It's a String Thing challenge on her BLOG. We had three tangles that we could use with a set string, although in Zentangle nothing is set in stone. I opted for a Renaissance tile this time as I typically stay away from them as they make me feel uncomfortable. Here is my entry:

Tangles: Pop-Cloud; Xplode; CO 2

I just admire how firstly, people actually come up with tangles and are able to draw the step by step instructions so effortlessly, and secondly how they come up with the names for the tangles! I lack total creativity when it comes to that.

This was fun. I enjoyed exploring more with the black and the brown micron and also decided to apply the white charcoal a bit more heavily. I think in the past I have been too "gentle" with adding shading. It's time to get bold!

Have a blessed day!

My friend Adele Bruno just recently celebrated her 200th "It's A String Thing" challenge and I wasn't going to miss it despite the communication challenges we were facing post-fire where our internet service provider lost 26 telecommunications towers!
Here is my Bijou tile for IAST #200
I'm still loving this Zentangle art and can't wait to get back into teaching.

What happened on the 7th of June 2017 is not the reason for me being such a poor blogger, the reason for blogging so sporadically is simply because I am not yet feeling settled in our new "place called home", even after 2 years! Apparently I need to give myself 3 years!

Nevertheless, the 7th of June 2017 will be a day we here in Knysna will remember for all of our lives. Literally Knysna, our town was on fire! We have one main highway running through the town, is also acts as I main road, with a few roads leaving off each side. I woke up that Wednesday morning, left home to take my daughter to school around 7am, felt that the "clouds" we were seeing looked ominous, like we were in the centre of something bad. And we were. A fire had started both to the left and to the right of our town. Fires are common, but normally contained.

I don't really want to relive this whole experience, suffice it to say that we and thousands of others were evacuated (apparently 10 000 people were displaced). In between all of that we had to get our dogs evacuated by boat across the lagoon. My husband was out of town and was only arriving home that evening, but couldn't as the highway was closed. Friends put us up in their home for just short of a week.

And now that this is out of the way I will attempt to post some Zentangle art that I have been these last few days, but in a separate post. In addition the outside cottage on the property we recently purchased has been renovated and I will soon be able to craft again and am hoping to get back to making cards and teaching Zentangle!

Thank you for bearing with me through this rather long post.

It's that time of the week, and I played along with Adele Bruno's Its' A String Thing challenge, you can find the details HERE. I liked the tangles she chose, not really the string, so as usual the string got lost somewhere , which is perfect for the art of Zentangle! There are no rules, no restrictions, simply guidelines. So here is my tile:

Box Spirals; Windfarm; Nouvart

I love this little Box Spirals (step-outs provided by Margaret Bremner). I especially enjoyed adding a little black in the open spaces.

We've had the most exquisite weather these last few days. The season is definitely changing as we go into "Autumn". Plus my daughter is on school holidays for two and a half weeks, so hopefully we get out and so stuff outdoors!

Hoping you are enjoying a wonderful Sunday.
I was late with my Zentangle tile for Adele's last challenge so I made an effort to get it in on time this week! We got to play with a nice loopy string and some interesting tangles. You can find the details on Adele's Blog HERE.

He is my submission:

Tangles: Patience; Aura Leah; CO2

My tile turned out rather organic, which I quite like. At long last, I managed to get to that quiet, meditative place when tangling this tile! I'm hoping it's a sign that life will take a good turn.

We experienced a beautiful sunny, blue skies kind of day today, I felt immensely grateful.

Have a wonderful day.

The challenge this week at Adele Bruno's blog was in honour of St. Patricks' Day, so the string was a clover leaf. Here is my tangled tile:

I love the tangle Rixty which is the one filling most of the string.

Have a blessed day!

Playing with Adele Bruno's latest challenge, you can find the details HERE. I'm not sure how I feel about this tile, but it is what it is.

Pokeroot; Wacho; W2

I'm learning that in art, if you are "not feeling it" it very rarely turns out in a satisfactory way! But we keep on practicing because that is what art is about, and that is how one gets better over time.

Last week was just a crazy busy week, my daughter is super busy with sports at the moment and I feel like I am driving up and down all day long, and I ONLY have ONE child!!! So I feel for those with more.

Have a wonderful day!

I've had this photo of my Dad, taken about a year before he passed away. In the recent month I have been thinking a lot about drawing him, but whenever I sat and thought about it I got quite emotional, I still do just typing about it.

Well, I got up the courage to try and draw him, remembering that I am still very much in the early stages of learning how to draw! However, with the welcomed advice of my Art teacher, I persevered and am happy and touched by the results.

I used 4 or 5 Pastel Pencil crayons ( first time using this medium) and sketched him on some tan paper.

I'm happy to say that slowly but surely I am starting to capture likeness more accurately. Having said that though, I am not really after likeness, I am rather more interested in capturing the mood and the feelings that go with what I am drawing, which also means that it's going to very much depend on my state of mind/heart on the day that I draw. And that's just fine by me....

It's still a heart theme over at Adele Bruno's blog, you can find all the details HERE. The string for this tangling exercise was a heart string with two lovely tangles, ZENITH (by Zentangle) and CAUGHT (by Christine Reyes).

I will need to practice doing Zenith as a border, it didn't quite go as expected. I also took a bit of liberty and added some stripes in an effort to create a bit of dimension. Here is my tile for this week:

We woke up to some light rain this morning which is wonderful. We are still very short of rainfall in this region so every little bit counts!

Have a beautiful day!

I've been learning how to sketch/draw this last year and a half or so. I still have a long way to go of course. The biggest lesson is learning to love what you draw, and accepting that we all have our own styles. Once I realised that, I felt much better about my drawings.

Here is a charcoal/pastel drawing I did last week and I was thrilled with the outcome.

I go for lessons once a week to an artist who has now become my friend. I was so touched when she told me this was worthy of framing!!!

Have a fabulous day!

Here is a photo of the crocheting work my Mom did during her last visit. I was so proud of her, she really persevered. It was a lot of new stitches to learn but she did wonderfully, in the end.
Now I need to start planning what I can get her to make on her next trip!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Let's see if I can do a better job with my blog this year! It HAS to be a good year.

Today I will share the first "It's A String Thing" Zentangle challenge tile for 2017. You can find the details for the challenge HERE on Adele Bruno's blog.

I seriously need to Tangle more this year, it brings me a lot of "quietness" in my very busy mind so it's important that I make time for it. I also need to restart giving classes, I really miss sharing the benefits of this art from.

I've been very busy with another "art form" this December!!! We had my Mom over for 4 weeks and I always try to find mildly challenging projects for her to do, at 76 years of age I think it's important to keep her mind busy with tasks other than the day to day things she does around the house.

So this time around I got her crocheting doilies! But I am keeping this for my next blog post where I will share what we both made.

Wishing you all a fantabulous 2017, may you be blessed beyond your wildest imagination!

Another quick share of a card I made for a young boy's birthday.

I enjoyed stamping all those individual candles.

Thinking of all my USA friends and family who eagerly (or not) anticipate the Election results!!!

Have a blessed day!

Let me share another Birthday card I made a while ago before this blog gives up on me totally!

Using as many bright colours as I possibly could seeing as this card would go to a child.

This blog is a sad situation, I know, and I am sorry. I used to look so forward to creating something to share with virtual "friends". It seems like such a long time ago. I think I was really hooked when I lived in the USA, it also helped that I had my friend Lisa 3 houses down and we both blogged and made handmade cards.

I am still blown away at how this move to this new town has impacted me. And I take full responsibility for allowing the current situation to hit me so negatively. Every day is a challenge to "snap out of it", and I will, I have the strength, I know I do, but , I'm just not succeeding right now.

So just bear with me as I work my way at my own pace through this new season in my life. I am still very creative, mostly learning to draw, and perhaps I will get up the nerve to share my attempts. Card making happens only now and then. I know the solution, I know what to do to get that fire going again, I need "my people", but, this town is different to other towns I have lived in, and I still need to figure it out, and perhaps they still need more time to figure me out!

Have a blessed day!

Life has been busy and we also went away for a week during this last school holiday, a much needed break! Just before we left, a friend asked if I could make her 5 Girl birthday cards, and 5 Boy birthday cards. I don't say no to an opportunity to make a card ( I haven't found a crafty group in my corner of the world yet, so I don't often make cards anymore, very sad).

Anyhow, here is one of the Girl cards I made, nothing fancy, but I enjoyed all those girly colours.

It's been a while since I stamped a Cupcake!

Have a fabulous day!

A quick post, almost a month later. That's Life!

I joined in with Adele Bruno's latest challenge to tangle using Cruffle, Flukes and Andante. Sadly not my best work, it's been a challenge to get into that "calmer" place in order to enjoy the process of tangling, even sketching is proving to be a nightmare right now, and let's not talk about my card making which is almost non existent!

But like a friend kindly reminded me, life too has it's seasons!

Anyway, here is my tile using the three tangles. Once again I found the string a challenge but I persevered and at least got to tangle.

I hope you all have a wonderful day. It's the end of Term 3 here in the Western Province so my daughter is on holiday for two weeks. We are waiting for her friend to arrive and then we are off to the beach as it appears that it's going to be a glorious day!
