Mixed Media Colour Challenge #1

So, I've decided to give this new challenge from Mona Pendleton & Sue Lelli a go!  I'm nervous because I am so new to this Mixed Media thing, and Art Journaling!  I want to do the Art Journaling bit, for sure, but I've realised that "my" mixed media, in my eyes, always looks like a mess!  That's what happens when you have been making CAS cards for so long, all this layering and splattering and collaging.....it's scary!

But I love these colours so much and I immediately thought of the song "La Vie en Rose" by Edith Piaff, and I had a teeny tiny image sent to me long ago of this Parisien lady in this hat, so I decided to try and sketch it in order to fit her in my repurposed art journal (10.5" X 14.5"), so here it is:

I basically painted the page in pink with SPUN SUGAR DISTRESS PAINT,  then gessoed over it, then collaged a few strips of pink patterned papers over that.  After that I covered the entire page with white acrylic paint, or maybe that's where I used the Gesso, who knows, by this stage I am so lost that I just DO, whatever, something, anything.....

Then came the sketch, the colouring of the hat with a Gelato and water.  Next came the typed text, the French Lyrics to the song, the words are really special and so, so romantic!  I roughly applied some METALLIC SILVER LUMIERE paint around the edges of the page and wiped it around with a tissue.  I then used some very old Tattered Angels stencils with Black Dylusions ink spray.  A bit of WASHI TAPE, and a lighter pink GELATO and silver paint around the text.

WOW, how far is that from a CAS creation!  I'm now tired!  Off to take out my frustrations on a Spinning bike after not being able to run for 3 weeks already because I sprained my ankle!

Have an awesome day everyone!

Interesting page Brenda. I'm like you Brenda... I find it hard to do this sort of Mixed Media... much prefer CAS or minimal layers. Love the colours you chose. Your lady looks stunning. Well done
