Making Memories

I am a very poor scrapbooker, you'll see why in a moment!  I have maybe fifteen 12 X 12 layouts and then somewhere along the way I simply stopped.  So my box of memories is piling up and everytime I look at it I feel guilty that I am not at least documenting those memories for my little girl.

I gave it some thought and go to wondering if, amongst other things, the scale of a typical layout is simply too large for me. So, just like I decided to cut up all my  12X12 sheets of patterned paper, I thought perhaps scrapping on an 8 X 8 size may be the solution for me. So I purchased an album and today made my very first page!  Hooray for me!

It's nothing fancy, and I complicated it by deciding to use NO patterned paper, just stamping, AND to use a Hero Art sketch from the current month's challenge!  I obviously do nothing in small measures!  So here it is (oh, excuse the photos, this is a whole other thing I have to learn too now, how to photograph layouts!).

Paper: PTI cardstock
Ink: Forest Moss & Antique Linen DI; Hero Hues - Iris & Poppy chalk ink: HA Soft Leaf shadow ink; CTMH - Tulip dye ink
Stamps: Hero Arts (CG196 - Canvas Stripes; CL383 - Antique Engravings; CL286; CG328 - Butterflies and Print)
Other: SU scalloped edge punch; pop dots

That's my Mom and Natasha in August of 2006, she was 8 months old.  I just love this photo in black and white.

So I probably would not pass a Scrapbooker's test, I have probably not even done the basics, for example, there is not title! But I didn't feel like I needed a title. I still like it, for my first attempt.  I really, really hope that I try at least try to scrap a page a week, so many photos........!!!

Can you tell which Hero Art sketch I used?  I turned it on it side, and also used a bit of liberty and added the popped up buterfly. The scalloped edge is stamped with a flourish from one of the HA sets, (don't know it's name, it's an oldie).

Ok, got to go as I am fetching Lisa shortly and we are going to go and meet Sue Lellie, one of the DT's from CR84FN!  Have an awesome day!

This page passes the scrapbook test in my book, Brenda! I think you did a terrific job and what a neat picture of your mom and Natasha. The butterflies and papers you have used are so pretty and I don't think it needs a title either.

Hi Brenda, I think your scrapbook page is fab, like you I struggle with a 12 x 12c piece of paper but you have solved it by reducing the size. Just perfect!!

Hi Brenda....I totallyknow what you mean about scrapbooking. After I got into cardmaking and I left my scrapbooking by the wayside. And I do enjoy it but after working "small" it is daunting to go so BIG again. But this winter, I hope to get back into it. And your layout really looks good....it is hard to believe that you haven't been at it for so long!

I knew immediately which layout you used and this is really beautiful, Brenda! You are way too hard on ourself. I love the photo and great colours. You did a wonderful job and I can't wait to see more! I haven't scrapbooked much at all but I find that I have to lay my piece flat on the table and photograph from above to keep the corners from bending and thus warping the page. I hope that helps! I hope you had fun with Lisa and Sue!!

I don't know what you are talking about...I think this is just great, B! I really love how you stamped the butterflies and brought the one to the photo. Smaller scale scrapping is definitely easier and quicker too! I can tell you that the more you do pages, the easier it will get and the better you will become. :)
Have fun with it! Whatever you do, Natasha is sure to cherish it forever.

Brenda, it was so FAB to meet you and Lisa yesterday! THX for the tea - it made my throat feel better! I hope you didn't take it wrong that I thought you were shorter and Lisa was taller - it just amused me that I got it backwards! (I am so easily amused!) LOVE this page - don't be so hard on yourself! And I think the 8 x 8 is Brilliant! LOVE the black and white pic with all the PRETTY butterfly stamping!

I think this is a great page! I, too, feel guilty about not scrapbooking for my son. I felt like 12 x 12 was too large for me as well! I found that once I gave the idea of all the same size page... it became more appealing to me again. Of course... I still don't scrapbook... ever. But one day I hope to! :) Thank you for all of the sweet comments that you leave for me as well! :)

I think your first attempt on the scrapbook is great and with the idea of using a smaller scale pp. Love the colourful butterflies with the b/ w photo. Have a nice day!

This is wonderful, Brenda! Love all those pretty butterflies. I find it much easier to scrap the smaller size also. But it hasn't helped me get more pages done. :)
