Papertrey June Blog Hop Challenge

It's that time of the month where PTI hosts a challenge on their BLOG and this month, (my first ever participation), we were given an inspiration photo to go with:

Isn't that a really pretty picture!  Look at that rainbow of colours!

I gave this challenge two tries, but I am happier with my second try so I will post that card first and just show you the second card at the bottom of the post.

Paper: Notecard (Hobby Lobby); Neenah Solar White
Ink: various distress inks; Memento (tuxedo black; cantaloupe; dandelion)
Stamps: PTI (Flower Garden; All About You Additions)
Other: Pearls (Hero Arts)

I basically tried to capture all the different colours in the photo, on my card, by rubbing the distress ink pad directly to my cardstock.  This is something  I learned from watching a tutorial by Emily Leiphart.

I then stamped the flower stems.  The petals were stamped in two yellow inks with a bit of rock and roll technique, trimmed and adhered to the card base.  I glued the one inside petal only and used dimensional squares under the other petals to pop them up.  I finished off with a pearl at each centre.

Here is a side view of the card to show the dimension:

Here was my first try where I focused on some of the colours but mainly used the wooden box at the bottom of the photo as my inspiration.  The PTI stamps used on this card were "Take Three Summer", "Background Basics: Woodgrain" and "All About You Additions".

Thanks for taking a peek!  I am off to visit some hoppers and then it's off to the airport to fetch my family from South Africa!  I have been awake since 3am I am so excited!

Have an awesome day!

Love the yellow with this.

Your background was made by swiping distress inks directly on the paper?! I've never tried that, and it looks amazing! What a cool effect. Love your popped up yellow flowers--happy card! :-)

Both cards use some of the photo inspiration colours, but you've created 2 very different and distinct cards. The first is very dramatic with the bold colour swatches and pretty yellow flowers. The second is so soft and pretty. I do love those images from Take Three. So sweet.

I love the first one, I can't believe you achieved it with distress inks, you have awesome control of those pads!

These are both beautiful, Brenda! Of course I love the first one - distress inks & Memento inks (yes!) - love the wash of colors. But you know what, my fav is your second one. It's so striking to me & unusual and I love the colors, papers, stamping & inking.
