Hero Arts October Contest

I have been tossing and turning since 4am! One more day and my Mom starts her journey to the US and I can't help but worry about all the details.  Having dreams that she takes a plane to Japan by mistake!!!

Ok, on to more serious things. The theme for the month of October over on the Hero Arts blog is Holiday Cardmaking.

I made this Christmas card last night to submit for the contest.  I really had fun getting out this new stamp set, aren't the patterns on those Christmas trees just beautiful!

I stamped the trees with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then used Vintage Photo Distress ink for the tree trunk and Peeled Paint for the trees.  I added a few gems on the one tree and in the centre of the snowflake.  The snowflake is cut out using one of the Papertrey Ink dies (I love these) and then stamped with their stamp using clear embossing ink and embossed with silver embossing powder.  I then used dimensional pop dots to adhere it to the card.  As you can see I added a little sewing, used my Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dot folder to emboss the kraft panel, and I also lightly sponged some Moonlight White Brilliance Ink onto the panel, makes me think of a snowy Christmas!

Paper: PTI, Neenah Solar White
Ink: Ranger Distress Inks, Memento Tuxedo Black, Brilliance - Moonlight White
Stamps: Hero Arts
Other: Gems from Hero Arts, Cuttlebug, PTI Snowflake Die and stamp, Silver embossing powder

I submitted a card earlier this month using the Photo Card technique.  It's a photo I loved taking, even as an amateur.  We were in Crested Butte, Colorado for a weekend away and on our last day there we were just driving around down some beaten paths to pass the time before we needed to leave for the airport.  And voila!  This most magical scene appeared out of the woods!  We all dreamed of taking up residence there!  See for yourself....

Stamps: Hero Art
Ink: Versamark, Memento Tuxedo Black, CTMH
Other: Nestability Die, Glossy Accent

I stamped the background with a leaf stamp using Versamark ink.  The photo was matted on a piece of cardstock cut out with a Nestability Die.  The little leaves under the sentiment were stamped with two different colour inks, cut out and covered in Glossy Accent.  I used the "rock and roll" technique where you first ink up your entire stamp using one ink and then you roll the edges of the now inked stamp in another ink to create darker or different colour edges.  In this case it really worked well to give a feeling of Fall to the leaves!

This is a card that will go out to my parents in law in Austin for Thanksgiving, I know they will appreciate it because they love nature as much as I do.

Well, it's another day with another long To Do List, so I had better go and get started.  We have a busy weekend ahead, driving to Austin on Friday, then waking up around 4h30am and driving down to New Braunfels to run a Half Marathon, then back to Austin and off the following morning to Houston to fetch my Mom! It's all worth it.... Wishing you all a fantastic day!

P.S. Thank you for the lovely comments I have started to receive, I treasure each one.
