Lily Pad Sketch Challenge & Some Winners

K 'n K Designs had two prizes up for grabs during the OWH Fundraiser Blog Hop this weekend and Cinnamon Sally was one of the lucky winners chosen from the comments on my blog!  Congrats Sally, I believe that Jan has already contacted you!  The other winner was Rhonda Miller from Shannon's blog, congrats!

Now onto the Lily Pad challenge. Lily Pad is having a sketch challenge, here is the sketch, (it's a good one) and I am also going to put this into the Wee Memories "Free for All" challenge:

I have been wanting to play with some of my Penny Black stamps and so I decided to combine a few of them with this lovely sketch.

I love the red and green combo on kraft.  And those poppies are some of my favourites!  And I love the Paisly Outline stamp which I stamped over the inked surface simply by spraying the cling stamp with some pearlized water in a mister.  I adore that soft, subtle effect.

As for that gorgeous red trim, I received that from Lucy a while ago when I won something on her blog.  Isn't it the cutest trim ever!  You could be in your kitchen looking out of your window to the poppies outside!  Well, at least that is the vision I am getting.

On the sporty front, I did a Half Marathon race yesterday, and it did not go according to plan.  In fact, my worst race ever, and unfortunately it's due to a problem in my feet from repeated pounding on this concrete.  I think I have a tough decision ahead of me.  I love running because it's a superior emotionaly pleasurable experience for me!  Some of you will understand what I am saying.  Unfortunately, for a while now, it has not been that.  And I have been running for more than 25 years so I understand that with long distance running one is going to experience discomfort, but it's not that kind of discomfort I am referring to.  The problem in my feet is now part of my every day life where I am basically continuously  uncomfortable on my feet.  I am not giving up running, that would be the death of me, but I need to revisit my objectives and I may need to, for a while perhaps, (hoping that this problem can fix itself with rest), just decrease my distances considerably.  I don't know, I have not decided.  I have a follow up with the Podiatrist on Thursday and I want to discuss it with him.  I just don't know....running is my other child you know, the other thing I love....Thanks for listening, I had to write it down more for my myself than for anybody else really.

But, life goes on and it's still awesome!

Cruising Through Life

This week at Wee Memories it's a One Layer Challenge and I love using Lawn Fawn stamps for this!

And as I was thinking about my husband, (five more sleeps), I had to make a card about sharing my life with him.  I just hope he doesn't mind being a hedgehog!

I cut out a "road" on scrap paper and then inked on both edges with some Pumice Stone distress ink.  Two adorable hedgies, some love flags alongs lifes' path and some colouring with Copics. I just think it's cute and simply wanted to share it!

Let today (and every day) be a day to be grateful for the people in our lives, and let's make sure they know that that is how we feel!  Hugs to all!

School and Rainbows

Weird title hey?!  I know, I am bad at figuring out what to name my posts sometimes.  But basically, this one is about a card I created to enter into the current Wee Memories challenge which is "Back to School" and also Lucy Abrams is having a Rainbow Week challenge where you are to create a card using a rainbow of colours!  And actually, come to think of it, my card also fits the Moxie Fab Square Sketch Challenge.  Oh wow, three challenges in one, that's a first!

I went and played with some PTI stamp sets to create this card and also some glitter, which is very unusual for me, but I'll keep this one for my daughter to give to her teacher at the appropriate time.  My apologies for the poor picture quality, it's also a 14cm X 14cm card so I struggled to try and fit it in the frame without it blurring up!

Here is a little close up:

To create the glitter frame I simply adhered some Scor Tape around the card and poured glitter all over it and shook off the excess.

The jar itself is made of acetate which I glued over the pencils with a very thin line of glossy accents.

That pale purple at the bottom of the jar is a stamp that comes in the set and I used it to represent maybe some tissue paper or just something that the pencils could rest on as they are not tall enough for the jar.

I popped up the sentiment and then added the pin which I used glossy accent on.

It's so hot out here at the moment and my daughter is bored and wants to go and do something!  Sitting here racking my brain trying to think of what will make her happy!

I decided to try colouring with my Copics on patterned paper as I had seen a few people do that and I really liked the look, so that's what I did after stamping the flower image with Memento Tuxedo Black on the cream patterned paper.  I did not experience any problem with my ink bleeding so that's a good sign!

I used a gorgeous digital image from Pink Cat Studio called Dots and Delight:Tweet, such a fabulous design to colour or paper piece.  I chose to colour with Copics and also piece some pieces on pop dots for dimension.

Teacher Appreciation #2 & Wee Memories #57

I am back with the second wall hanging for teacher number 2!  Her name is Ms. Sandy and she likes pinks and purples.  She is also more outgoing and full of fun, so, her wall hanging is more along those lines!  I hope she likes it!

Again, really tough for me to photograph!  I went everywhere outside and inside the house, in the shade, in the sun, lights on, lights off - no luck! I am also going to enter this into Wee Memories "Stamp It" challenge .

A lot of stuff going on in this box!  My favourite part, those little rolled flowers!  I got the die from My Favourite Things. It is a super die!

I covered the grunge board "S" with acrylic paint.  When dried I covered it with Crackle Accent and let that dry.  I then pounced some Peeled Paint over it. I really wish the photo could capture all the details, it really does not do it justice!

Lots of stickles around the three layers of the large flower and on the butterflies. The two matching butterflies are from Hero Arts and the middle butterfly is from Penny Black.

I also made a card to match using PTI's cardstock as the base card.  The sentiment on the card is also from one of PTI's Year of Flowers sets.

This was a lot of fun!  I also had to visit Lisa a few times and ask her for her opinion and advice, and to borrow the rights shades of Copics (thank you Lisa!).

Now I can relax, breathe and make some cards I have been wanting to make for a while!

Teacher Appreciation 1 & Wee Memories #57

It's that time of the year, schools are closing out preparing for the new school year and offering teachers a much needed break!  With that comes gifts to those individuals who spent so much time with our little ones, and hopefully in some small way, conveying what an important role they played in their lives, and ours. 

My daughter has two class teachers and I decided to make each one a wall hanging using some stamping and shadow boxes. Nothing too fancy, I used their favourite colours in the hope that they will actually make use of the gift someone in their homes!  I will post both on different posts as I want to link them up to the current Wee Memories "Stamp It" challenge sponsored by Market Street Stamps.

Here is the gift for Ms.Suma who is quite shy and reserved and whose favourite colour is red!

This is the best picture I could get, I had such difficulty with the reflection back onto the glass front!  Hopefully Lisa Spangler will address this in her tutorials that she is very generously having over on her blog HERE.

The papers are by DCWV and the stamps are from Darkrrom Door.  I simply stamped the three flowers using versamark, heat embossed with white embossing powder and then inked up the backgrounds with some Worn Lipstick and then Fired Brick distress ink.  I then used a "splatter" stamp from Tim Holtz with some Vintage Photo and also inked up the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink.

I really like the outcome and wouldn't mind hanging something like that on my wall.  I also made a matching card.

I used a Kraft card base and a Sizzix die for the botton section.  The sentiment, "Thank You" is stamped on the inside. 

This was the easy gift to put together.  You will see the next one tomorrow!

Paper Piecing at Wee Memories

The challenge this week over at Wee Memories is to create something with paper piecing on it.  It's sponsored by Tiffany Doodles who has some gorgeous digital stamps.

I don't really do a lot of paper piecing, I guess because to date I have preferred ink!  But now that I am developing this love for some patterned paper, perhaps, paper piecing may become something I do more frequently.  One also has to have the right stamps for this technique.

I stuck with a CAS style and kept the paper piecing to a minimum, no need to overdo it right?!

The butterfly is made up of two different patterned papers and then adhered using dimensional dots.  The flowers were stamped, cut out and adhered to the notecard, one of them is given a bit more dimension using pop dots.

Sketches and Colour Challenges

So last night I decided to try another sketch from Hero Arts current April contest with some of my favourite colours.  Wee Memories is currently having their 50th challenge and it's all about the colours that inspire us!

I have many, but this card showcases some of them.

On the vertical strip I stamped the Fern stamp using the Soft Leaf shadow ink.  On the horizontal strip I stamped the Envelope Pattern stamp with some Vintage Photo DI and stamped and coloured the sentiment. 

My favourite is that flower!  It's from the Hero Arts "3 Dotted Flower" set, I used all three sizes of flowers and stamped them with Versamark on Sweet Blush cardstock and then embossed with white embossing powder!  When I layered the flower I used some little dimensional dots to make it more real!  And do you see that beautiful pink glittery gem in the centre?  It's called a "glittered skittle" and you can find it HERE at Your Next Stamp! (I actually won these from Karen's blog)! They are ultra light and not really bulky, so realy nice for cards or layouts!

I also inked all the edges with some Vintage Photo DI. I just love these soft feminine colours.  To think that I had no pink in my wardrobe until the day that Natasha was born!

Lawn Fawn and Wee Memories Challenge

(This is my 3rd post today, so scroll down if you want!)

Lawn Fawn and Wee Memories have teamed up for a co-challenge, the theme is Cute &/or Cuddly" and if you don't have any Lawn Fawn stamps it's ok.

I am new to Lawn Fawn and very impressed with the quality of their stamps.  I used my only two sets to incorporate the sentiment into what I think is a cute card.

I just love this little fox and the way she holds hercvhead! I stamped the fox twice.  Once I overstamped her with a plaid background from PTI's "Bitty Background Blocks"  using Latte chalk ink. The second image I basically coloured the tail end and the head piece with a Copic marker and then cut that out and glued it over the fox.

After stamping the banner I cut it out and mounted it on the card using dimensional strips.

This card is for my very special friend Lisa who lives three doors down from me.  I am not sure what our husbands think of us because we are constantly walking over to each other's houses to either share a card, show off some new stamps, and today, Lisa brought me over an Iced Chai Tea!  There are not many friends like that!  But, she does more than that, she is really "here" for me and I hope she feels the same about me. And with my hubby gone away to West Africa I am sure that she is going to be seeing a lot of me!!!

Still Trying to Fill my Box...

I thought that the box was almost full!  I guess I was wrong!  There is still a lot of room so I need to get cracking.  Here is another card for OWH which I will add to the current Wee Memories Scrappy Saturday Challenge which is "United We Stamp".

I think this could be a nice love card that a female soldier could send back home to her love!  That lady is so elegant, I got her in a Unity Grab Bag, which had 15 stamps in it, but you had no idea what you would get, it was just a surprise pack. 

And then I saw that filigree little stamp in one of my Technique Tuesday monthly kits, and thought that it would be perfect for stamping repeatedly along the spine, it continues the "elegant" theme in a way.  It just needs to make someone happy, that is all that I want out of this love of card making.

The sentiment is from the Unity January KOM.

Ok, off to make more cards!  I wasn't kidding when I previously mentioned that it takes me forever to fill an OWH box because I never mass produce cards, every single one is a different design!  Call me crazy, that wouldn't be new to me!  Ok, bye for now!  Have an awesome day!

Cards for OWH

So as I promised to myself, I spent the evening in my craft room making more cards for OWH, and I think I will add this one to the current Wee Memories Scrappy Saturday Challenge.  Today I am posting more of a "cute" card.  I wanted to try out this stamp from My Favourite Things.  She is so cute holding her flowers.

Wee Memories for OWH

Wee Memories Scrappy Saturday Challenge, "United We Stand" is in honour of supporting the troops, so everyone is encouraged to submit as many entries as possible and then of course, to actually send them off to Operation Write Home.  Just a very important note, NO glitter, it can make the troops more noticeable as it sticks to their clothing (as we all know).  Another important fact, try to ensure that the inside of your cards is of a light colour, (white, cream), so that they can actually write a long note to their loved ones (writing on dark cardstock with a pencil can be challenging!).

The cards can be of any theme, but check out the link above for OWH and there will be guidelines per shipper as to what they are short on at present.

This challenge came at the exact moment that I needed a bit of a puch to try and finish filling my OWH box so that I can send it off, so I am going to spend my evening making quite a few cards in order to get this done.

Today I made a simple Miss You card and actually used some ribbon!  (Yeh!  I always stay away from ribbon as I have no clue how to make it look good!).

I dyed the crinkle ribbon using some Victorian Velvet Distress ink by rubbing it directly onto the ribbon.  Don't you love that lace edge die from PTI!!!  I used the splatter stamp with some Spun Sugar Distress ink to give some interest to the background.

Get Sketchy with Wee Memories!

I decided to take part in the current challenge over at Wee Memories, it's a super sweet sketch and it's sponsored by Simon Says Stamp!

And here is my very simple take on it, I wanted to play with orange and teal like colours for this card.

I first stamped, cut out and adhered the top border.  I love this border from the January 2011 Unity Kit of the Month. I then used a Nestability Scalloped Circle Die to create a mask, and then stamped the flowers inside the negative of the die, masking off the remainder of the card. Whilst keeping the mask in place, I inked around the inside edge with some Pumice Stone Distress Ink.

I stamped my sentiment and scored a line above and below it to finish off the sketch. Added a few pearls as I thought that the background was too white.

Design with Twine

This is the current Scrappy Saturday Challenge over at Wee Memories, and I have had this idea in my head since I read that post, so I decided to participate, what fun!

Paper: All cardstock by PTI
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Pumice Stone Distress Ink
Stamps: Hero Arts
Other: Heart shapes (Cricut), PTI Mat Stack Die, PTI Impression Plate, Twine (The Twinery), Glitter, Glossy Accents, Crackle Accents

The hearts were cut out using my Cricut machine which has been collecting dust, (too many toys!).  I then applied a thin line of glossy accents (favourite adhesive) around the perimeter of each heart and gently applied the Pink Sorbet Twine from the twinery in two rows.  Then I covered the centre of the hearts with more glossy accents and added pink glitter to it whilst it was still wet.  Once dry, I applied Crackle Accents, and did it crackle!  Hooray!  This one really looks like broken glass in real life, I hope you can see it in the photo.  The hearts were then adhered to cardstock which I had first impressed with a PTI Alphabet impression plate, very subtle look.

The butterfly background was created by stamping two different butterflies from my favorite Hero Arts set, Antique Engravings, using Pumice Stone Distress Ink.  I lightly inked the edges with the same ink.  I love this soft colour.  And grey is the new black apparently! The sentiment is also from Hero Arts.

I hope that you have had a glorious Tuesday!  It was another very cold day here today, but this afternoon the sun peeked out from behind the clouds, and that always makes me happy!

Wee Memories Challenge #32 "Just a Little Pink"

I am busy playing a little, and seeing as I was playing with pink I thought I would add this card to Jenny's current Scrappy Saturday Challenge to use a little pink!

In the real world I love whales, and I am determined that one day I will do an ocean trip to see these wonderul creatures in the wild.  At the moment I have to accept to see such beauties at Seaworld and on National Geographic!  I have seen Humpback Whales up close in South Africa, but I realy want to see some Killer Whales!  Ok, so that's in the future, but right now I made do with a cute Hero Arts set that has this adorable whale.

Normally this whale has three water droplets sprouting out of its air whole, but because this is going to be a Valentines Card for OWH I used a tiny stamp which is part of a Hero Arts Valentine set to recreate the water.  I love that wave border by Close to My Heart (True Happiness D1365).  Both the waves and the droplets were embossed with clear embossing powder.

Wee Memories "Dust Off That Patterned Paper" (WMC31)

Oh boy, and do I have my fair share of patterned paper!  I have really been trying to dig into my stash and start cutting up those papers that were initially bought with a purpose in mind!  You know what I'm talking about, I am sure I am not the only guilty party here!

Wee Memories' Saturday Challenge this week is to use our patterned paper and make a project.  So here is my card which will get added to my OWH box.

I chose a more "simple" design to allow the patterned paper room to show off!  I did some stitching on the edges.  I love that this stamp set had a small lilly that could be stamped seperately, it fits perfectly in this 1 3/4" circle, still allowing room for the sentiment which also comes in the set. The centre panel was then adhered using dimensional dots.

I enjoyed making this card, I love it's simplicity and the rich colours.  Thank you for passing through and have a great evening!

Birthday Flowers

Good morning everyone!  What a beautiful day here today, blue skies, sunshine, and perfect temperature!  So much to be thankful for.

Here is a card I just made having found out late in the day that my daughter's teacher just celebrated her birthday!  I love the happy colours. (My picture taking was not the best this morning, the light was not great).

Paper: PTI, Watercolour paper
Stamps: Hero Arts
Ink: Peeled Paint, Spiced Marmalade, Dusty Concord, Tea Dye & Scattered Straw Distress Inks, Staz-On Jet Black
Other: Vellum, random pearls

I used one flower image from a Hero Art stamp set and inked it with various distress inks, spritzed it with pearlized water and stamped it randomly on watercolour paper.  The edges of the paper were inked gently with some Tea Dye ink.

I stamped the sentiment on Vellum and added that to the panel, it's adhered at the back of the panel so that nothing shows through.  A few pearls here and there, and the card is ready to go!

I hope to make a few more cards today for various occasions.  And you, are you crafting today or is Monday just that one day in the week where life is really busy?!

This card was made using the Distressed Dots patterned paper from Papertrey Ink.  I did a little sewing around the edges before adhering it to my card base. The centre panel is made with a piece of the Flourish Stamp that was inked with Fired Brick Distress ink.  More and more, Ranger's Distress Inks are becoming my ink of choice, they can do anything, really.

The paper flower was my personal challenge for today.  I have been wanting to make it since I first saw it on Jennifer's video but steered clear of it for fear of making a complete mess.  I cannot say that I am 100% satisfied, yet.  I felt that the clear embossing ink did not get into every crevace of the flower as I would have liked, even though I pressed that flower down really hard!  But I still like it, and I love that brad in the centre! The centre panel was adhered with 3-dimensional adhesive strips.

A sentiment on some vellum, something I am starting to use because who wants to hide that Flourish if you don't have to!

Today I am posting another Christmas card where I used the clear tree stamp from Hero Arts.  And I have decided to enter this card in the Wee Memories Challenge, this weeks' theme is "free for all".

I first stamped the bottom of the kraft card with a PTI text stamp from their Christmas Background Stamp set, using the Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.  I punched two strips of cardstock with an EK Success lace punch and wrapped some twine around it and adhered these above the text.  The two trees were stamped, cut out and inked with Peeled Paint and Brushed Corduroy Distress ink, and adhered to the Rustic White cardstock which was also inked around the edges with the same Brushed Corduroy ink.  A few gems, a sentiment, a little bell and there you have it!
